i committed my first faux pas today.

while chatting with the marketing director for sino's group of hotels, i said: "well, i haven't had much chance to explore the city.. you know, i'm kinda stuck here on the gold coast .. cos i work in this hotel, and i leave in the service apartments right next to it..."

and he said, "oh no. please don't say 'stuck' ..."

you see, the gold coast did not exist before sino came in, dug up some rocks and created a beach in 1993. and since then, they have, of course, been marketing it like crazy.

so i guess i need to show a bit more loyalty and pride in the company that is generously hiring me this summer.

for lunch, i did what i came to do. (i was not lying when i said i came here to eat dim sum.)

so, after 3 days, i've finally sat down to yum cha in a noisy, grimy hong kong restaurant.

needless to say, it was good. all that sodium and sugar and what not had better taste good.
